Conversations with my Violent Side: the poetry of Norman Alexander Alkamal Jemmott (Kibo Books, 2007)

In  the second book of poetry from writer,

Alkamal Jemmott,  he addresses a host of intimate and personal issues, posted cleverly in chapters relating to family, love, sex, and politics.

Employing his character style of using imagery, and emotion in his writing, this book is an absorbing collection of poetry with poems written over a 12-year span.  Yet, these writings have survived time and circumstance to remain strikingly relevant to today's life situation.  What we are left with this volume of poetry is a sobering look into what living honestly has been like for this poet and writer.

Reviews

"Conversations' is a wonderful moment in poetry's history that no lover of the art form should miss." –Karen "Afrikaren" Niles, poet/essayist

"A book worth reading.  Alkamal is well on his way to join the ranks of poets who care."

Louis Reyes Rivera, Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, 1995

"Alkamal wades through a myriad of emotions and produces a masterpiece.  His language and philosophies are the essence of soul" Makeela Brathwaite Amani, author, 'Potions and Plots Unraveled from my Locs' (Kibo Books, 2007)

"The poetry of Alkamal flows as prose ~ lyrical, rhythmic, possessing the skillful elements of raw telling. Conversations With My Violent Side gently slides us across the sharp edge of expression, that precipice where reality and truth cease to be one."  Motion, poet/author 'Poetry in Motion' (Cosmic Press, 2003)
